Director's Annual Report

Louise Sirisko

The 2020-2021 school year has been a challenging year both professionally and personally for York Region District School Board staff and families. Yet, in spite of the uncertainties brought on by COVID-19, staff rose to the challenge and kept student achievement and well-being at the centre of all our actions and decisions.

Educators continued to deliver high-quality classroom instruction to over 126,000 virtual and face-to-face students. Trustees continued to advocate for and move forward on the priorities of the Trustees’ Multi-Year Plan and staff continued to deliver on action items in the Director’s Action Plan. As a result of this work, significant progress was made in achieving organizational goals throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

It is important that we recognize the efforts of our truly exceptional staff and students. YRDSB staff went above and beyond to provide students with the necessary support to succeed. COVID-19 forced staff to quickly pivot and adapt new working and teaching strategies. Similarly, students and families were required to adjust to new and evolving learning environments. All staff and students adhered to unprecedented public health measures and procedures. I am immensely proud of the work and accomplishments that have been achieved amid the uncertainties of COVID-19.

To learn more, I encourage you to read through this year’s Director’s Annual Report and visit my Director’s Action Plan page. There you will find more about the work that has been done at the system and school level, and how we are working to ensure progress in staff knowledge, skills, attitudes, beliefs and practices for the 2021-2022 school year.

Sincerely,

Louise Sirisko
