School Permits

The York Region District School Board (the “Board”) recognizes the important role our schools play in supporting community activities.  At this time, the Board is planning a graduated approach to reopening our schools for community use.  We will begin by approving permits for school gyms on weekends, beginning April 2, 2022 with the goal of fully reopening our facilities in September 2022.

We are also pleased to confirm that summer camps will be permitted to operate in our schools beginning the second week of July.  Camp operators are encouraged to submit their permit requests if they have not already done so, and will be required to comply with Ministry of Health and Education guidance and any other legislative requirements in place at the time of the camp.

Finally, the Board is accepting renewals for September 2022.  If you have not already submitted your renewal request, please take a moment to do so by April 15, 2022.

The Board will continue to work with our provincial and local public health units and may be required to suspend permits at any time.

We look forward to welcoming people back into our schools for community use and appreciate your patience and understanding during these very challenging times.

Information for the 2022-2023 School Year

Permits begin on or about the second week of September and end on or about the second week of June. Summer permits will start the second week of July and end two full weeks before Labour day. Exact start and end dates will be confirmed upon issue of the permit. Permits do run on PA days but not in the evenings of March Break.

New permit requests are accepted throughout the year and will be approved in accordance with our policy and procedure.

All denied permits are placed on our waiting list and you will be contacted if a space becomes available. Please do not place numerous requests if you are only looking to permit one day, time and location.

Please note effective September 2022, fees will increase by 4.4%.

Submitting an Application
eBase allows you to view an electronic record of permit history including requests, bookings, communication with the permit department and permit fees, update contact and online payment information, and view site availability prior to submitting requests.

General Information

Please check the eBase site frequently for updates and messages about your permit request. You will be notified electronically once your permit has been completely processed or if we are unable to grant your request.

Using the credit card option for monthly payments ensures a zero balance at the end of each month and at the end of your permit. You will be charged for the actual usage at the end of each month. This will also result in a quicker turn around in receiving your permit as the postdated payments will not have to be received before we forward your permit to you.

The Board believes that all learners, leaders and community members have a shared responsibility for minimizing their effect on the environment and taking an active role in protecting it. Permit holders and users of Board facilities are expected to support the Board’s efforts to reduce and divert waste, and to reduce energy and water use in our schools.
