​Short-term one-to-one counselling with children who have been impacted by domestic abuse. Counselling addresses a variety of issues such as behavioural difficulties, low self-esteem, anger management problems, and feelings of isolation. Children learn how to deal with the separation (possible divorce) of their parents and are better able to understand these changes in their family structure. Work is done together with child and caregiver, assisting family in identifying and implementing plans to meet the needs of children and family as a whole.

    Eligibility criteria:  Developmental Disability with a significant cognitive delay who exhibits challenging behaviour that is interfering with their ability to participate in daily living activities.

     

    Service is determined by evaluation of needs and may be provided through individual and/or group support.  Behaviour intervention is provided to children and adults through a comprehensive assessment followed by positive-based teaching and programming.  A full range of challenging needs are addressed and include general management issues, aggression, self injury, skill promotion, and social problem solving.

Humanity First Food Bank helps people in need of food support by providing monthly food hampers. We also provide free home delivery service to those who have no transportation means or are physically challenged. Humanity First also assists clients of shelters, neighbourhood centers, unemployment referrals and referrals from religious centers.

     

    Under Feed a Family program, groceries of non-perishable items are provided to low-income individuals and families in need of food support.

    Important information for clients of the Newmarket Food Pantry:

    Beginning April 1st you will no longer be able to come to the pantry to pick up your food.  We will be preparing food hampers that will be delivered to you. You must call us at 905-895-6823 ext. 120 to book a delivery day for April.  You must be home on that day between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

     

    To accept the delivery. On the day of your delivery, you will receive a call from the driver to let you know that your food is being dropped off at your door.  We will provide an update to you later in April if we need to continue with the delivery program in May.

     

    Please rest assured that we will do our best to continue to provide you with food and we want to thank you for working with us during this time of uncertainty.

    The Markham Food Bank continues to be dedicated to providing emergency food supplies during the growing concerns of COVID-19.

     

    We have made changes to our current operations to protect our volunteers and the families accessing our services. Starting on Tuesday March 17th, we will only permit 1 client inside the front entrance. They will be asked to show their ID (with proof of Markham residency) and register their visit and then receive pre-packaged grocery items. At this time, clients are no longer able to select their food items. We will continue to operate at regular business hours and service existing and new clients.

     

    We believe these changes will allow for us to continue to provide emergency food supplies to families in Markham and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. We thank you for your understanding during this time.

    Registration is readily available to all residents of King Township.

     

    As registrants arrive they will be assigned a number and requested to wait in their vehicle until it is their turn. People will be admitted to the building one at a time in sequence, with no gathering allowed either inside or outside the church where Distribution is taking place.

     

    There will be someone at the door of each of the three centres to greet registrants and give them numbers in sequence. Please consider arriving closer to 10 a.m. to avoid the inevitable wait as a result of many arriving early.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Clients of the Georgina Community Food Pantry:

     

    In an effort to help #flattenthecurve, you will no longer be able to come to the pantry to pick up your food. We will be preparing food hampers that will be delivered to you. We will be attempting to call you over the next few days, to let you know of this process change.

     

    Our delivery date will be Saturday mornings. You must be home between 10:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. to accept the delivery. On the applicable Saturday, you will receive a call from the driver to let you know that your food is being dropped off at your door.

     

    We will update you later in April, if we need to continue with the delivery program in May.

     

    Please rest assured that we will do our best to continue to provide you with food. We want to thank you for working with us during this time of uncertainty.

    COVID-19 Guidelines:

    We will be open, as usual, on Wednesday March 25th.  However, we will be following all public health guidelines and putting in place some restrictions at the pantry.  These practices will help keep you and our volunteers safe:

    1.     If you are sick, even with just the sniffles, please do NOT come to the pantry.  Please have a friend or neighbour (someone from outside your dwelling) pick up your order.

    2.     Please do not bring children with you.

    3.     Please have only one person per family come to the pantry.

    4.     Please wash your hands before you come.  We will have sanitizer wipes available and we ask that you use them when you enter the church. 

    5.     Please practise social distancing.  Keep 2 metres/6 feet between yourself and other clients. 

    6.     We ask that you enter using the south door entrance of the church.

    Chasdei Kaduri, named after Kaduri Samorali, is a registered charity founded in 2013.  It is the largest volunteer-run Jewish organization that provides free weekly delivery of non-perishable food, fresh bakery goods, fresh produce, eggs and dairy to thousands of needy Jewish families in the GTA.  Our clients get online access to our stock of thousands of Kosher items.  They shop online and get their personal selections delivered to their door every week for free.

     

    Health and Safety Notice: During COVID-19 emergency, the food bank will focus on offering “gift cards” for those that are able to shop within the community.  For seniors or those that are homebound, the food bank will work on a “case by case basis” to offer support through their food delivery model.

    Canada Emergency Response Benefit

    Government introduces Canada Emergency Response Benefit to help workers and businesses

    Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services

    Information about new Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and link to application for unemployment Insurance as well as general information about recent changes.

     

    The Canada Emergency Response Benefit will be available to workers:

    • Residing in Canada, who are at least 15 years old;

    •  Who have stopped working because of COVID-19 and have not voluntarily quit their job or are eligible for EI regular or sickness benefits;

    •  Who had income of at least $5,000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of their application; and

    • Who are or expect to be without employment or self-employment income for at least 14 consecutive days in the initial four-week period. For subsequent benefit periods, they expect to have no employment or self-employment income.

    In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, we are temporarily expanding the list of eligible expenses under the Passport program to support people and their families while community-based activities and settings are closed. These changes allow you to use your funding for goods and services that may make it easier for you to stay at home during this time and practise physical distancing.

    New eligible expenses include:

    1. Sensory Items

    2. Technology

    3. Activities and items to support home-based recreation and fitness activities that would otherwise be accessed through day programs, school and other community-based programs:

    4. Personal Protective Equipment and Supplies, When Available

    5. Essential Service Delivery Fees

    6. Behavioral Support Plans and Related Interventions

    All other inadmissible expenditures outlined in the program guidelines remain in effect.

    These changes are temporary and the existing program terms and conditions will continue to apply upon the government providing notice. You will be given as much advanced notice as possible to prepare for the return of regular business once the government provides notice.

    To make it easier for people who receive this funding to take advantage of these changes quickly, we are also giving you 25 per cent of your funding for this year in advance. You should save all receipts, invoices and supporting documents with proof of payment for these expenses. In response to the challenges arising from the COVID-19 outbreak, we are also waiving the deadline to file your claims.

    These measures are part of the government’s action plan to protect vulnerable people and staff caring for them.

        Canada’s only national organization that offers peer-to-peer support to help all Canadians with issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. During this time of social distancing, there are young people of the 2SLGBTQ+ community who are isolated from their support network.  Some live in homes where families do not know of their queer identities or parents have just learned of their child’s sexual orientation/gender identity during the pandemic. This resource gives multiple resources to closeted queer students and their parents/guardians to better understand the social identity and the community resources available to support the whole family. It includes 12 videos of different familial perspectives.
