The following opportunities are available:
Acceleration Courses (18 days)
For students who wish to earn a credit in a subject they have not previously studied or those who wish to upgrade a mark in a course that they have successfully completed.
Students are encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment. Course offerings are not guaranteed as they are based on sufficient enrollment and teacher availability.
Students can only take one acceleration course during the summer session. Transportation is not provided for this program.
Online Learning (formerly known as e-Learning)
Courses that are specifically designed to be taught in a fully online format. Online learning does not require pupils and teachers to be face-to-face with each other. Classes occur online using an asynchronous model, with check-in opportunities with the teacher. The learning platform is Brightspace by D2L.
Dates: July 4 to July 27
Hours: Flexible (6 hours per day minimum)
In-Person Learning
Courses will be offered in a face-to-face learning model.
Dates: July 6 to July 29
Hours: 8:45 am to 3:33 pm
Locations: Aurora HS, Keswick HS, Langstaff SS, Markham District HS, Milliken Mills HS, Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS, Richmond Green SS, Tommy Douglas SS, and Westmount CI
Remote Learning Reinforcement Courses (9 days per session)
For students who have not successfully earned the credit and have achieved a mark between 35% and 49% and are recommended by their Principal for a reinforcement course.
Dates: Session 1 - July 6 to 18 and/or Session 2 - July 19 to 29
Hours: 8:45 am to 3:33 pm
Summer Pathway Programs
There are several Summer Pathway Programs students can participate in and earn 1-2 credits, such as Cooperative Education (Co-op), Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), College Dual Credit courses, and the Innovation Course at Y-Space in Markham.
Other Summer Programs
There are also other summer learning opportunities available to secondary students, including:
- The Summer Mentorship Program (SMP) gives high school students of Indigenous or African ancestry a chance to explore health sciences at the University of Toronto over four weeks in July. (SNC4M)
