What:
World War I impacted people on every continent and was critical to the development of Canada as a nation. To mark the centenary, the York Region District School Board developed a series of multidisciplinary events and activities that allow students to both create and share innovative projects that depict the diverse voices of Canadians and global history.
Student work will be on display at two upcoming showcase events. Teachers and students from all grades were invited to use any arts discipline to explore events and themes of the war. Students worked with and used resources from local artists, museums and historical societies to create their works. It was a great opportunity to develop works of art and performances that portrayed Canadian stories of WWI as a departure point, and which dealt with contemporary values and issues.
