What:

Remembrance Day Ceremony

Parkland Public School’s dramatization of well-known stories (such as War Horse), poems and music will be adapted to honour the men and women who served, were wounded or gave their lives in the First Great War with special attention to remembering the sacrifices of groups whose contributions have been less recognized.

The groups being recognized are the Seven Indian Expeditionary Forces (including Hardit Singh Malik who became the ambassador of India to Canada after Independence); the Chinese Labour Corps; black heroes such as Jerry Jones; and various Canadian soldiers.

Canadian poet John McCrea’s poem In Flanders Fields will be joined with the words of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

9:45 a.m. - Junior Intermediate Ceremony

1:30 p.m. - Primary Ceremony

Why:

To honour the sacrifices of the men and women who served in the First World War as well as honouring the diversity of those groups whose contributions have received less recognition.

Who:

Parkland Public School staff and students; Parkland Drama Club members.
