“Anne Frank – A History for Today” Traveling Exhibition

The exhibition consists of twelve panels displaying various photos, texts and a chronological order of events leading up to and during World War II. The personal story of Anne Frank is set against larger historical events of the time to help viewers understand the connections between the personal and the political.

One additional panel shows Canadian participation in World War II that was created to mark the70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands in 2015. Through the story of Canadian soldiers, the panel addresses themes such as enlistment, Canada’s role in major battles, the prisoner of war experience, liberation of Nazi camps, war brides and immigration following the war.

The exhibit is open to the public during set times (noted below) and specially trained student ambassadors will be on-hand to lead visitors through the exhibit.

Why:

As a school named after Anne Frank, staff and students feel a shared responsibility to keep the memory of Anne Frank’s story alive and to foster dialogue between young people on topics such as the dangers of discrimination and the importance of tolerance, acceptance and human rights.

Anne Frank Public School staff, students and community members; student ambassadors from Anne Frank Public School, Stephen Lewis Secondary School and Westmount Collegiate Institute.
