Conditions of Employment

Police Vulnerable Sector Check

As a condition of employment with York Region District School Board, all successful candidates or volunteers will be required to provide a satisfactory police record check. A police record check must be a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) or Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC). The check is required where an individual is in a position of trust or authority over vulnerable persons, including students. Prospective employees or volunteers may not commence employment or volunteer until the appropriate police screening documentation is received by Human Resource Services.  Costs incurred in obtaining the PVSC/E-PIC is the responsibility of the candidate.

The Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) is completed through your local police jurisdiction. Each police jurisdiction has varied time delays in processing applications, ranging from several weeks to several months.

The York Region District School Board has partnered with Sterling Backcheck to offer the Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC).  Learn more or complete the E-PIC process.

We will accept satisfactory PVSC’s that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers, OCT, and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
