Students Develop Anti-Classism Campaign

Keswick, ON – Students at Jersey P.S. and Keswick H.S. have launched a campaign to raise awareness and address stereotypes around classism.

Following learning and conversations about issues of equity and classism, the students designed a series of posters that will be distributed to schools in York Region District School Board.

“There’s a lot of stereotypes and a lot of labels and a lot of different words revolving around privilege. We have to strip those stereotypes and look deeper because it’s not always what it looks like,” said Rachel, a student at Keswick H.S.

“I’m most proud of the fact that we are actually getting somewhere and we are actually doing something. I definitely want people to think that we want to stop this. We want to make it better for everyone,” said Paris, a student at Keswick H.S.

York Region District School Board is the third largest school district in Ontario with over 127,000 students in 180 elementary schools and 33 secondary schools.
