Upon completion, successful students will have developed leadership skills and may earn:

  • Two secondary school Grade 11 credits;
  • Standard First Aid (includes Automated External Defibrillator);
  • Bronze Medallion Certification;
  • Bronze Cross Certification;
  • National Lifeguarding Certification;
  • Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification.

Where:

Milliken Mills Community Centre, 7600 Kennedy Road, Markham

When:

Students must register by October 1, 2015.

Classes run from October 6 to June 9, 2015.

Why:

Developed to address a shortage of swim instructors, this program will help meet growing community needs, reduce the cost of lifeguard certification, and prepare students for possible employment opportunities with the City of Markham and beyond.

Who:

The program is run by York Region District School Board in partnership with the City of Markham. Participants must be 16 years or older by the end of the program, hold Bronze Star or equivalent qualifications and demonstrate endurance in a 400m timed swim.
