What:
Launch of a Board-wide initiative to address substance misuse. The event will feature:
- Keynote speaker Wali Shah, a spoken word poet and musician. In 2014, he was selected as one of Canada's Top 20 Under 20 after raising one million dollars for the United Way.
- Members of the YouthSpeak performance team will share their lived experience and deliver a message of respect, hope and resilience.
- Resources for teachers and students developed by YRDSB and community partners.
- Launch of the campaign hashtag - #way2bdrugfree.

Why:
York Region District School Board is committed to addressing the issue of drug and alcohol misuse. This intentional focus will help build healthy and safe school cultures and communities.
Who:
YRDSB has partnered with Addiction Services for York Region, York Region Community and Health Services and York Regional Police. Eight student leaders and two staff members from each YRDSB secondary school will be in attendance. The event will feature keynote speaker Wali Shah and members of the YouthSpeak team.
