It is in the best interest of the student to submit their application as early as possible. International students must apply directly to YRDSB or through an authorized agency abroad. As a guideline, it is recommended that the application process begin 5 (five) months before the enrolment start date because the length of time required to process student applications for study permits varies from country to country.

Steps to Follow
Step 1

Complete the online application and submit the required documents. Pay the required application fee.

Upon receipt of the application package and the application fee, the Admissions Officer will review the application.

Once accepted a conditional offer of admissions including an invoice indicating the balance of fees required to complete the process will be sent by email.
Step 2

Confirm the living arrangements of the student and provide the Admissions Officer (if not already confirmed) the homestay details of the student.

Accept the conditional offer by replying to the email and prepare the payment balance. Payment is accepted in the form of a bank draft, money order, certified cheque (write the student's full name and date of birth on the back) or online by accessing the Global Payment portal.

Once payment is received the official acceptance package will be sent by email (only when the homestay arrangements of the student have met the Terms & Conditions of Participation).
Step 3

Apply to the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission for a study permit and present the letter of acceptance, the receipt of fees paid and all other documents required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)
Step 4

Upon receipt of a study permit, make arrangements to arrive in Canada two weeks prior to the start of school.

Prepare up-to-date immunization documents (in English - translation must be notarized) which must accompany the student, upon arrival, and submitted to York Region Public Health when requested
Step 5

Elementary students: Upon arrival in Canada, schedule an appointment with the Reception Centre for an educational assessment and to complete the school registration process. It is recommended students arrive in Canada at least one week prior to the start of the program.

Secondary students: Attend the student orientation to participate in the educational assessments and register for school
