Ontario’s Mathematics Achievement Action Plan directs school boards to focus on fidelity to the curriculum, engaging in ongoing learning, and knowing the mathematics learner. Consequently, educators from all schools within the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) actively engage in professional learning opportunities that align with these three priority areas.
YRDSB provides additional professional learning around areas such as building student confidence in math; using high impact instructional practices; and centering the needs of students from historically and currently marginalized communities. This learning is supported by resources such as board developed long-range plans, content webinars and online tools that are housed on the board’s internal website. Additionally, a digital math tool called MathUP has been provided to every school to support teacher planning and student engagement in the learning.
To support math learning at home, the math page on the board’s website is updated regularly to provide York Region families with resources, links, and content connected to Ontario’s Mathematics curriculum.
