What:

The annual YRDSB Science Olympics is a competition that encourages and promotes skills and attitudes which prepare learners for success in the 21st century through problem based learning and inquiry. The tasks are designed to build skills in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking, as well as to enrich learning and engage students. This year’s theme is Mission to Mars and the following events will take place:

  • Junior Biology: Life Found on Mars
  • Junior Chemistry: Martian Elements
  • Junior Physics: Pure Water?
  • Senior Biology: Alien Encounters
  • Senior Chemistry: Mars, A Place Without the Many Comforts of Home
  • Senior Physics: Build a Martian Rover

When:

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
*Best photo opportunities: 9:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (events) & 2:45 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. (Awards/Closing)

Why:

To provide an opportunity for students to apply what they are learning in the classroom and showcase student talent.

400 Grade 9-12 students from YRDSB secondary schools.
