Students Innovate with Healthcare Professionals to Prevent Post-Operative Falls

Working with healthcare professionals, a group of secondary school students will develop creative solutions to reduce falls in post-operative patients.

The students will experience aging simulation, mobility and physiotherapy equipment; and speak with patients and healthcare professionals to help better understand the challenges faced by patients. They will then work in teams to develop innovative solutions.

The event gives students an opportunity to collaborate, problem solve and apply learning in a hospital environment. Organized with CreateIT Now at Southlake Regional Health Centre and supported by York Region Public Health, this is also part of the innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship training for Specialist High Skills Major students.

November is Fall Prevention Month.

1:45-2:45 p.m. Students will be presenting their solutions to Southlake Regional Health Centre and York Region District School Board staff members.

Who:

Approximately 60 Specialist High-Skills Major students from York Region District School Board schools; healthcare professionals and staff members from York Region Public Health, Southlake Regional Health Centre and YRDSB.
