Richmond Green S.S. Students Develop Construction Skills and Experience

Students from Richmond Green S.S. showcased their woodworking skills creating a variety of wooden products, including ingrained cutting boards, serving boards, charcuterie boards, signs and festive holiday items.

The students are part of the Exploring Opportunities Program in Construction. Exploring Opportunities Programs are specialized regional programs that allow students to focus on developing a high skill level in a particular technology. They include in-school and work-based experiences, including job shadowing, work experience, cooperative education, and in-depth skills training.

"I really like going out and on the job sites. It's a lot of fun, and you learn a lot too, a lot of certifications," said Dante, a student in the program.

"You see students who are individuals come together as a team and take a project from blueprints to being completely finished, and the sense of acommplishment that they get and their sense of pride," said Ryan Neale, Department Head, Richmond Green S.S.

Students in YRDSB can now explore career opportunities, and secondary school courses and programs by the sectors that interest them, such as architecture and construction, manufacturing, business management and more.
