Local Students Apply Research and Robotics to Compete in the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge

Eight teams from Greater Toronto Area schools, and one from Kitchener-Waterloo, will go head to head putting 12 weeks of research, design, and programming to the test in a regional LEGO championship tournament to win honours and recognition.

Approximately 100 Grades 5-8 students from across southern Ontario are among children from around the world who are taking part in the FIRST LEGO League 2022 Challenge. To compete in the challenge, teams must build and program a LEGO mindstorms robot to complete missions on a thematic playing surface.

WHERE:

Sutton District High School

20798 Dalton Road - Large Gymnasium

Sutton

*Admission to the FIRST LEGO League event is open to the public and free of charge.

WHEN:

Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

  • Championship Tournament Begins - 11:30 a.m.
  • Opening Ceremony - 1:00 p.m.
  • Awards Ceremony - 2:50 p.m.

WHY:

Through hands-on experience and working in teams, students explore a real-world issue and gain an appreciation for and interest in science and technology. The tournament challenges students to conduct research that explores where energy comes from and how it’s distributed, stored and used - and put their creativity to work to innovate for a better energy future.
