Vice Principal Selection Process

Note to Internal candidates, please visit BWW - Vice Principal page.

In alignment with the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and the Director’s Action Plan, the Vice Principal Selection Process meets the Board’s succession planning goals and talent development needs and contributes to building a workforce reflective of the communities we serve. Through our recruitment strategy, the best candidates are selected based on:

  • education
  • skills
  • qualifications
  • experience

The selection process is open to internal applicants and is coordinated by a central team consisting of Human Resources/Recruitment Staff and Senior Administration. The Selection Committee for will consist of Principals and Superintendents who have all completed required Human Rights, Anti-Discrimination and Bias Training.

Candidate selection will be based on the competencies in the YRDSB Leadership Framework for School Administrators.

Pre-Screening Requirements for Vice Principal Candidates:

  • PQP Part 1 to be completed at the time of application submission and visible on OCT.ca.
  • PQP Part 2 to be completed by: January 31, 2025.
  • Completion of Apply to Education (ATE) screening questions (e.g., discipline history, Experienced Teacher Performance Appraisal - most recent TPA, Ontario College of Teachers, etc.).
  • References to be provided at time of application;
    • References will not be contacted until Stage Three;
  • Additional Qualifications (e.g. Special Education Part 1, French) would be an asset.

Prior to Applying

It is good practice in any process to pre-conference with referees prior to providing them as a reference. Candidates do not need the permission of their Superintendent/Supervisor to apply to the Principal Selection Process; the decision to apply is the Candidate’s.
