As you may have recently seen in the media, all Ontario school boards received memos from the Ministry of Education late Friday afternoon outlining funding reductions or cuts to the Education Programs - Other (EPO) grants.

  If we have a negative experience in school where we don’t feel like we belong or feel like we are worth anything then it’s hard for us to go into adulthood with confidence and with a sense of feeling like we are capable of conquering anything because all through our childhood, our school life, we’ve been in the shadows.

  Well, maybe it started that way. As a dream, but doesn’t everything? Those buildings. These lights. This whole city. Somebody had to dream about it first.—James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl There is so much wisdom in children’s books that reminds us about what is most important, and how we can live our best lives, achieve our goals, and be strong and effective leaders.  

I hope everyone had a great week getting back into the routine of the school year. The strength of our Board comes from our people and I want to say a special thank you to our staff members for all that they do to make our students and families feel safe, welcome and cared for as they transition into the new school year. Our Direction We are a large board; to be successful, we need a precise plan to reach our destination, and we must be intentional and aligned in our work.
