Dear families,
Like many of you, earlier this morning I was disappointed to see a media article depicting violence amidst allegations of anti-black racism at one of our schools. Such actions are not acceptable in our schools or communities. While this is not an experience we want for any of our students, we take both matters extremely seriously and are putting supports in place for those affected. We are sorry for the hurt this experience is causing.

We were saddened this morning to learn that the victim of the tragic homicide in Whitchurch-Stouffville last week was a student at Maple H.S. Our thoughts are with the student’s family and friends, and with all of those who are affected by this loss and act of violence. A tragedy like this deeply affects our communities.

Dear Families,
Today, we were shocked and horrified to learn of a tragic homicide in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. We have read media reports about the incident being connected to an after-prom party, it is important that we not speculate or jump to conclusions or make assumptions. We are supporting the efforts of York Regional Police in their investigation and all official information and confirmation will come from them as they conclude this investigation.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn this weekend of the attacks in Sri Lanka. We stand in solidarity with the various Christian communities and all those affected in Sri Lanka and here in York Region. Our hearts are broken along with those affected in Sri Lanka and around the world.

As you may have seen or heard through the media, or through your devices, yesterday, there was an amber alert for one of our Kindergarten students in Markham. A missing child is every parent’s worst nightmare. Words can’t express the depth of concern all of our staff members, both at the school and our Board offices, shared for the safety of our student yesterday.
We are so relieved that the child was found and is safe. Today, support staff, including psychologists and social workers, are available for our school community and will continue to support the student and her family.
Tragic Event in Christchurch, New Zealand
We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn this morning of the attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. There is no room for this type of hate and violence in our society. Our hearts are broken along with those affected in New Zealand and in the Muslim community around the world.
Preparing for winter inclement weather
This message is also available in other languages (please see below).
Dear Families,
Preparing for winter inclement weather
In recent years, we have experienced an increase in extreme winter weather. As a result, we have reviewed how we respond on inclement weather days. There may be rare occasions where unprecedented winter weather events occur and we need to close all schools and Board locations.
Happy Holidays
As the weather gets colder outside, it’s wonderful to see so much warmth being shown within our buildings - people taking the time to show appreciation, giving generously to others who may be in need, coming together as a community to celebrate the season, and looking forward to time with family and friends.
