The Burrlington Outdoor Resource Centre is located near the village of Nashville, just northwest of Kleinburg. When BORC was established in 1968, it was one of the few outdoor learning centres in the province outside the metropolitan Toronto area.
The Burrlington Outdoor Resource Centre takes its name from a small pioneer settlement that was located nearby. The village of Burrlington has now disappeared and become a footnote in history, but the Burrlington schoolhouse remains as the centerpiece of the BORC facility. The Burrlington schoolhouse first opened its doors to students on January 1, 1865 and for 100 years it served the area as a rural school.
Surrounded by conservation land, BORC is an ideal location for outdoor and environmental education. The main branch of the Humber River flanks the property as it winds its way from the Niagara Escarpment to Lake Ontario. Field, forest, marsh, meadow - the diverse natural spaces support an amazing range of plants and animals. The setting provides a unique outdoor classroom for students to experience well-designed educational programs.
