Primary Class Size Report

In 2007, the Ministry of Education implemented a ‘hard cap’ in the Primary Class Size (PCS) strategy.

For the 2018-19 school year, staff continued to ensure that:​

1. Primary classes were organized as close to 20:1 as possible to maximize funding with 90% of K-3 classes at 20 or few students;

2. No primary classes (including ¾ combined classes) were above 23;

3. Junior/Intermediate classes were organized to meet the collective agreement’s Junior/Intermediate class size average; and

4. All classes were organized within collective agreement guidelines.

A successful PCS compliance report was filed with:

• 90.7% of primary classes at 20 students or less;
• 100% of primary classes at 23 or less; and,
• ​A Junior/Intermediate class size average of 24.57 to 1.
