The Summer Teach Abroad Program will not take place overseas July/August 2022. Inquiries can be made to teach.abroad@yrdsb.ca.
This program provides opportunities for YRDSB educators to gain a professional teaching experience in a different educational context and an opportunity to develop a better understanding of different cultures.
Positions
Positions vary by site; however, normally include the following:
Administrator
(1 position per site) - overseeing the overall quality of the delivery of both the teacher training component and student language camp, addressing student discipline concerns if necessary, ensuring that all Canadian teachers are up to the YRDSB professional standard; speaking on behalf of the Canadian staff on issues related to Canadian teachers.
It is required that candidates for these positions are current YRDSB Principals/Vice-Principals, have knowledge about different cultures, diplomacy to work with others and willingness to lead a team in a very different and challenging teaching environment.
ELL or ESL experience is preferred.
English Language Teachers
(8-20 positions, per site) - Teaching English as a Second Language.
ELL or ESL experiences is preferred. Candidates must have a willingness to adapt to different cultural contexts and to work as a team in a challenging environment.
Included in the Program
The program will have four inter-related components at each site:
- English Language Camp for local students
- Teacher Training component
- Cultural Orientation for Canadian teachers
- Local cultural excursions
The overseas partners will cover the cost of:
- International round-trip airfare
- Connecting transfers to host city
- Hotel accommodation
- Cafeteria meals
- Visa application fees
