Dear Families,
As you may be aware, members of the York Region community have been deeply affected by the events taking place in India regarding COVID-19. Nothing prepares us for the news of a crisis like the one that is unfolding in India, especially one that affects children and youth.
There are few words to adequately express the depth of sorrow that we feel. Although these events are taking place in India, we feel their effects here at home in our schools and our communities. We join families and communities across the globe in grieving for all those affected by this terrible crisis.
It is important we continue to reach out and support one other in times of tragedy. There are resources available on our website to support families in speaking with children after a concerning event. Children’s Mental Health Ontario has also developed resources on how to support your child’s mental health during COVID.
Below is an additional resource from the National Association of School Psychologists to support conversations with students.
Our thoughts are with all those who are affected by this crisis. It is important we continue to reach out and support each other and our communities in times of tragedy. Together we will get through this pandemic.
Sincerely,
Louise Sirisko
Director of Education
