Dual Credit Accelerated OYAP Program

Students in their last semester of high school, can earn their high school credits, register as an apprentice, complete all or part of their Level One Apprenticeship schooling in this specific trade, and earn hours/competencies towards their apprenticeship.  Accelerated OYAP is an integral component of school-work transition programming, student success and SHSM.  Students will gain knowledge and experience under the supervision of a skilled professional at an apprenticeship workplace, and attend in-school sessions at the college/training institution.  Program components include pre-placement and integration sessions at their home school, all or part of their Level One training at the college/training institution, and a cooperative education placement in the trade-specific setting.

This program is intended to assist secondary students in their final year of high school with an interest and a demonstrated aptitude in this specific trade to complete their OSSD and to support their successful transition to college and apprenticeship programs.  Students must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have earned all compulsory courses required for an OSSD.

  • Please see your Co-op Department for detailed information sheets on the Individual Dual Credit Accelerated OYAP programs.
  • Through Co-op, students will earn up to 4 (four) Co-op credits towards their OSSD. 
  • Through Dual Credit, students may earn 1 - 3 additional elective dual credits towards their OSSD.

How to Register

To register, students need to complete the following steps:

  • Pre-select four credit co-op for Semester two in your graduating year on My Pathway Planner and speak with their home-school guidance counsellor and co-op teacher.
  • Ensure that you have completed your compulsory courses, OSSLT and community service hours before the beginning of this program in semester two.
  • Attend the orientation session in the fall, Complete the application process.  Interviews take place the semester prior to beginning the program.
