We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn this morning of the attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. There is no room for this type of hate and violence in our society. Our hearts are broken along with those affected in New Zealand and in the Muslim community around the world.
Tragic and hateful events such as this underscore the importance of our continued focus on Championing Equity and Inclusivity as a system priority. All of us need to know that we matter and belong, that we are equal and that together we make society stronger. We recognize the importance of community partnerships to ensure our classrooms and workplaces are places of safety and inclusivity.
York Region District School Board stands with our Muslim community and all those affected by this tragedy. As a demonstration of respect, we will be lowering the flag at our Board office.
