Mediation

If the HRCO determines that a case would benefit from mediation, the parties are provided within formation about mediation along with an invitation to participate in the mediation program.

Mediation is advisable but it is voluntary. Mediation will not take place unless both parties agree. If the parties choose to participate in mediation, a mediator will attempt to help them find a resolution to which all parties can agree.

Mediation has many benefits:

  • Mediation is an effective method for achieving equitable results through a collaborative approach to resolving disputes
  • Discrimination complaints are often only one part of a dispute; mediation allows creativity in solving issues
  • Mediation conversation is confidential and allows participants to speak openly
  • Mediation allows participants to have ownership of the path forward and rebuild relationships
