School During the War

The war became part of Canadians' lives as soon as it started. The history of the war was taught in schools as early as 1914.  Course material was also changed so it was war themed. For example, in math class students were asked to calculate the interest of Victory Bonds and questions included references to Allied soldiers and German prisoners of war. In this textbook, question 9 talks about the Canadian Patriotic Fund. This was a fund-raising organization for soldiers’ families. By 1917 it had raised $22,981,616.
