With ongoing discussions about bargaining and potential provincial labour action in education, we recognize that many members of our community have questions and concerns about what this will mean for our students and schools.
We want to assure you that we will continue to be transparent and provide you with as much information as possible in the months ahead. We have created a bargaining information page on our website that we will keep updated, and you can also follow us on Twitter @YRDSB. In addition, we will continue to communicate directly with families as needed so they understand how any potential job action may affect our schools.
We greatly value all of our staff groups and the important role they play in creating conditions that advance student learning, achievement and well-being. We respect their right to collective bargaining and job action. It is important to note that the job actions are a result of the bargaining process at the provincial level, and Board employees are required to follow the direction of their provincial federations/unions. At the local Board level, we continue to bargain with all our employee groups.
Our focus remains on our students, and their safety is our top priority. We will work to minimize the effects of any job action on students and families. If you have any specific questions or concerns about your child, we encourage you to contact your school principal.
Sincerely,
Corrie McBain Louise Sirisko
Board Chair Director of Education
