Sector Partner Contextualized Experience: Data Literacy

The York Region District School Board, The Regional Municipality of York and the City of Vaughan are offering students an opportunity to attend a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) and Sector Partner Contextualized Experience (SPCE) event where they can learn about climate change and open data.  This event will promote data literacy and demonstrate how it influences policy decisions.

The morning will consist of a variety of workshops, including; Climate Change Vulnerabilities/Impacts and York Region Climate Change Action Plan Overview. The afternoon will include a hack-a-thon focused on the question “in your lifetime, what is the impact of changing temperature on the following themes?” (Themes include human health and agriculture) and design presentations.

8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

Why:

Students will be given the opportunity to work collaboratively to create development plans to address climate change from a variety of perspectives.  

 

Who:

Approximately 40 students from York Region District School Board will be given the opportunity to work alongside local industry experts. Media are welcome to attend for photo ops.  The best time is during the morning while the students are completing their learning stations.
